VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES
Volunteers - we could not make our Shelter work without you! There are many opportunities to volunteer, ranging from much-needed daily cleaning to care for our animals, helping at fundraisers, and answering the phone. Volunteers are a valuable asset to our shelter, and the animals benefit the most!
To become an independent volunteer at SAHS you must be at least 16 years old. Kids are permitted to volunteer with an adult guardian, though animal contact is limited for safety reasons. For questions about volunteering, please contact the shelter at 573-471-4801.
SCOUTS AND SCHOOL GROUPS
Pick a project you would like to do for the shelter animals and contact us for more information. Animal contact is limited for safety reasons.
Some possibilities for groups include:
- Grounds care (mowing, trash pickup, weeding, etc.)
- Bathe the cats and dogs

The Sikeston Area Humane Society promotes the care and protection of all animals. We receive many animals that are not ready for adoption including those who are orphaned or malnourished, injured, ill or the victims of abuse or neglect who need long-term medical rehabilitation or extra socialization.
The Sikeston Area Humane Society relies on Foster Care Volunteers to take these special animals into their homes and provide them with the love and care they need. Once recovered, Foster animals return to the Shelter healthy, friendly, and eager to join a new family like yours.
As you can imagine, providing hands-on daily care to an animal that is to be given up for adoption can be a difficult and emotional task. Our Foster Care Volunteers only reward for their work is the knowledge that they have made a difference in the life of a homeless animal. Are you ready for the challenge?
