Shelter Address

Municipal Holding for Stray Dogs

When an Animal Control Officer or resident brings a stray dog to the Shelter, the staff tries to reach the owner of the dog if some form of identification is available, or will check the Shelter's list of lost dogs to determine whether the owner reported the dog as lost.

If the owner does not claim the dog within ten days, the dog is then owned by the Shelter and will be put up for adoption. The City of Sikeston contracts with the Sikeston Area Humane Society to provide this municipal holding function.

If the owner claims the dog within the 10 day holding period, the Shelter will assess the owner a $10 per day boarding fee.
